A well-cared-for candle can make all the difference in how it burns. But sometimes your candle may behave a little differently from one burn to the next. Before assuming something is wrong, take a look at what your candle may be telling you.
🕯️ Is your flame dancing?
First, check for drafts. Air from an open window, fan, or air conditioner can cause your flame to flicker or dance. If there isn't an obvious draft, your wick may need a little more trimming. Extinguish the candle, allow it to cool completely, and trim the wick before your next burn.
🕯️ Is your flame larger than usual?
Your wick may be too long. A longer exposed wick can create a larger, more active flame. Allow your candle to cool completely, then remove the excess charred portion and keep the wick short before relighting.
🕯️ Is there a little wax left on one side of the glass?
Don't panic! Airflow can affect how evenly your candle melts. If your candle is near an AC vent, fan, or open window, the cooler air can cause one side of the jar to remain slightly cooler than the other. Try moving your candle to an area with less direct airflow during your next burn.
🕯️ Is your candle tunneling?
Give your candle enough time to develop a good melt pool during each burn. Repeatedly extinguishing a candle before the melt pool has had time to develop can contribute to uneven burning.

Your flame, wick, and melt pool are all little clues. Pay attention to how your candle behaves, and make small adjustments when needed.
